Aye, Robbie Burns Day. The evening is usually celebrated with food and drink and dancing. Typical fayre for the meal is Cock-a-Leekie Soup, Champit Tatties, Bashed Neeps, and the star of the meal – Haggis.

Burns’ poetry is read/recited. The most common of these are The Selkirk Grace and Address to the Haggis.  Then the head speaker gives a speech on The Immortal Memory of the bard, the lads give a toast to the lassies and the lassies reply.

And copious amounts of whisky are often consumed and sometimes a shot of the amber nectar is poured onto the haggis after it’s been sliced open.

Some hae meat and canna eat,

And what is this Scottish lass having for supper on Robbie Burns Day? Spaghetti and garlic bread. Nae Scottish. However, might be persuaded to raise a dram of the amber nectar and toast Robbie Burns.
