#AtoZChallenge – L is for Libraries

Libraries

I remember the thrill of getting my first library card and being able to borrow books from my local library. Located near the main desk, stood the huge cabinet that housed the card index.

Nowadays, the card system is on a computer but it’s still based on the Dewey Decimal System.

Even with the wealth of information available on-line, there’s nothing doing your research in libraries. Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it on the shelves, and if your local doesn’t have it, then it can be brought in through inter-library loan.

You can borrow more than just books from libraries. Music CDs, audiobooks, DVDs and ebooks.

Newspapers and periodicals can’t be taken out, but are available to read there.

Do you use your local library? Do you borrow more than just books?

  1. Liberary is the best place where I would love to spend my time !! I go to my local library whenever I get some time. Its true that u can check online if the book that u r looking for is available or not but going to the library is totally a different experience every time. Sometimes u find the books that u never thought u would .

  2. Libraries are amazing places. I have many a childhood memory standing in front of those little drawers trying to find the book I was looking for.

Things are so easy today. I get online, request the book I want, the library emails me when it’s ready, I check out at another computer, and can go back to my car without even interacting with anyone.

Stopping by from the A-Z Challenge and Triberr.

  3. Thanks for dropping by, Stacy! I’ve noticed (with my local) libraries aren’t the same hallowed places they used to be. Still, a library is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

  4. I know what you mean. I’ve hardly been in my local library in the last couple of years. However, I do support my local independent bookstore.
